AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- The rain gave way to partly blue skies just in time for one of the biggest races of the day.

"This is what we work for all year long," said Sue Sensor, owner of Sunshine Numbers.

And it seemed like right when her horse stepped onto the track, the rain and clouds went away and the sunshine came out.

Steeplechase isn't a sport for the weak, though.

"You have more bad days then you have good," Sensor said.

But on Saturday, she was feeling really good.

"They don't get any better than this," she said.

Her horse was the winner of the 47th annual Budweiser Imperial Cup, and is $50,000 richer.

"We always thought he had a lot of talent, but he is just one of those who has gotten better with age, he really has just figured it all out," she replied.

It was one of six races held today at Ford Conger field in Aiken.

And under a sky full of rain, Sensor said she was hoping it would stay dry.

"By the fifth race, if it rains all day, it will get soupy but the man upstairs was looking after us today for sure," she said.

She has been doing this for close to 30 years and knows a thing or two about racing horses.

"We don't plan his route at all, he tells us when he is ready to run," Sensor said.

Now, with a win under her belt, she's getting Sunshine Numbers ready for the next race.

"Our goal is to run next week in Camden on our home turf because he loves that course," she said.

Another chance for her Sunshine to come out and brighten the day with another win.
