COLUMBIA CTY., Ga. -- Topics including Magnolia Trace to Sunday alcohol sales were on the docket for the Columbia County Commission Tuesday night.

Sunday alcohol sales were approved to go on the ballot for all of Columbia County in July. Grovetown approved Sunday sales last year. This would take effect for the entire county as early as this fall if it is approved.

Commissioners also rejected a bid for phase six of the broadband project because all of the bids were over budget. They have decide to reassess and bid some projects out individually. They expect this to put only minor delays on the project.

The county administrator confirmed that County Attorney Doug Batchelor was the attorney in charge of the closing for the Magnolia Trace company, Affordable Equity Partners, and the land seller. The Administrator says these types of things happen all the time and no conflict of interest was involved.

The commission also named a new deputy county administrator. Colonel Glenn Kennedy was approved last night. Colonel Kennedy is a retired garrison commander at Fort Gordon.
