A Butler High School student was arrested Friday afternoon by Richmond Board of Education officers after they said they found a gun and marijuana in his car near the school gym.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A Butler High School student was arrested Friday afternoon by Richmond Board of Education officers after they said they found a gun and marijuana in his car near the school gym.

Earl Jackson, 19, has since been arrested for having the .22 caliber gun on school grounds and possession of marijuana. Officers found the items in the 12th grader's car just before noon, the report said.

The principal said he's glad the gun was taken up without incident.
