AUGUSTA, Ga. -- News 12 now knows the name of the man who committed suicide during a standoff with law enforcement Tuesday afternoon.
Richmond County deputies say 29-year-old Monte Walker led them on a short chase through a neighborhood after they received a call about a man with a gun.
After they stopped Walker on Karian Drive near Peach Orchard Road, SWAT negotiators were on the scene trying to talk with Walker for over an hour.
Walker turned the gun on himself and was pronounced dead at the scene.

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A standoff with a suspect ended with the man's suicide on Tuesday night.
Deputies got a call about a resident with a gun near Peach Orchard Road around 5 p.m. This led to a chase.
The man threatened to commit suicide and eventually did. This happened in the front yard of a home on Karian Drive.
The man's name has not been released at this time.
Multiple units were out on the scene, including SWAT negotiators, the Marshals Office and the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
