AIKEN, S.C. -- The Aiken County solicitor plans to seek the death penalty against Stephon Carter, the man accused of killing Aiken Public Safety Officer Scott Richardson.
The assistant solicitor confirmed to News 12 the notice was served Friday.
Carter is now facing a capital murder charge.
Police say Carter was part of a traffic stop in December 2011 on Brandt Court. Officers Travis Griffin and Scott Richardson were on the scene. Griffen was shot first, but his bulletproof vest saved his life. Richardson was shot several times and later died at the hospital.
