AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Augusta City Attorney Andrew MacKenzie could be forced to look for a new job. Some Augusta commissioners say he hasn't done his job, while others disagree.

MacKenzie will face the very clients he's paid to represent. He has held the city's general council seat for three years. A few months ago, News 12 discovered the city attorney and city administrator have not had job evaluations in years.

"A lack of an evaluation is a real issue, not only with the general council, but with this government as a whole," said Commissioner Alvin Mason.

"I call it Salem, Ga., and everybody's on a witch hunt. We should be coming together trying to figure out how we can move forward," said Commissioner Grady Smith.

Smith is talking about a no confidence vote on MacKenzie.

"It means we don't believe you're doing your job, and it could mean you're fired," Mason said.

"I feel like he's done a job that's OK with me," Smith said.

Mason and others are not so sure. Mason has a problem with the city attorney's recent advice on contractual agreements. He also says Mackenzie gave bad advice on the trash contract.

"It's also possible that he needs a reminder of who he works for. We're looking for good sound legal advice and not things that will put us into lawsuits," Mason said.

"Why don't we get into the damn 2013 era with the rest of the counties in Georgia? We have a chance for progression, but they're holding us back with this stuff," Smith said.

Augusta commissioners will vote on this issue on Tuesday night.
