CLARKS HILL, S.C. (WRDW) -- Law enforcement is searching for three men they say attacked a cyclist along a popular walking trail in McCormick County.

The man was attacked near Highway 23 in Modoc, the McCormick County Sheriff's Office said. A popular biking group alerted riders about the attack saying it happened around 9 Saturday night along the FATS trail.

The man told police he was about half a mile away from his car when three men in camouflage stretched a rope across the trail which caused him to fall off his bike. He said the men began assaulting him when he opened his eyes and another man also tried to sexually assault him.

The victim was eventually able to get away with minor injuries, but not before they fired a shot at him. He said he shot right back.
