WILKES COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW)--Wilkes County Sheriff's office confirms the man barricade in his home for hours is now in custody.
Authorities say, Charles Reed, 34, barricaded himself inside a house on 6371 Greensboro Road after attempting to run his girl friend off the road. According to reports, the woman called 911 around 12:30 this afternoon saying Reed tried to run her off the road twice. The second time he blocked her, and he started hitting the car to get inside.
Deputies say during the incident, two armed bystanders approached Reed and he stopped. He then fled the scene as two Taliaferro County Sheriff's Deputies were approaching; one stayed with the victim and the other chased Reed for three miles before his vehicle went off-road into the woods near his home.
The victims says told deputies that Reed was possibly armed with a .22 rifle and a 12 gauge shotgun.
According to reports, Reed eluded deputies in the woods and barricaded himself as more deputies were called to the scene. His home is 100 yards in Wilkes County, leading to multiple agencies responding to the incident.
The home was surrounded by deputies from Taliaferro County Sheriff's Office, Wilkes County Sheriff's Office, Richmond County Sheriff's office, the Georgia State Patrol, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities say while they surrounded the home, deputies heard what they say sounded like a single gun shot from the house. Commanders on scene unsuccessfully made contact with Reed inside the house for several hours. The GSP SWAT Team was eventually brought on scene.
Authorities say around 7, Reed was brought out of the house unharmed. A gun shot was confirmed, and several weapons were confiscated from the house.
Reed has been charged with aggravated assault, criminal damage to property – second degree, fleeing & eluding law enforcement with additional charges pending. He is being held in the Taliaferro County.
