Flooding rains, high winds, tornadoes possible

ATLANTA (AP) -- Forecasters say a storm system approaching Georgia will bring the threat of widespread damaging winds and isolated tornadoes to the state.

The National Weather Service early Wednesday morning issued a tornado watch for nine counties in northwest Georgia through 1 p.m. Wednesday. It included the cities of Calhoun, Carrollton, Cartersville, Dallas, Rome and Summerville.

Forecasters say a squall line capable of the damaging weather is expected to move through Georgia Wednesday. The line of storms is expected to push into northwest Georgia Wednesday morning and track through the Atlanta metro area by mid-afternoon Wednesday.

A high wind warning was issued for nine counties in the north Georgia mountains and included the cities of Blairsville, Dahlonega and Cleveland. A wind advisory covered several more counties in north and central Georgia.
