TATTNALL CO. (WRDW) -- A hearing for Scott Dean on a writ of habeas corpus was held this morning at the Georgia State Prison in Reidsville, the Tattnall County clerk of court confirms.
The Cornell School of Law defines habeas corpus as bringing a prisoner before the court to determine if the person's imprisonment or detention is lawful. It's considered a collateral relief of a state court decision rather than a direct review.
In 2011, Dean was found guilty of exposing himself to the teenage accuser and was also found guilty on another count of touching his teenage daughter.
Presiding judge Robert Russell III heard testimonies and statements Wednesday, but additional evidence and documents would be presented in court.
Parties were given 30 days to submit the required paperwork with a ruling to follow, according to the clerk of court.
