Knife-wielding man threatens deputies and SWAT team

LANGELY, S.C. (WRDW) - Aiken County Deputies and SWAT say standoff with a man armed with several knives in Langley is over and the suspect is in custody.

31-year-old Martin Chavez is accused of arming himself with several knives and threating to hurt himself -- and any law enforcement that he came in contact with at his home on Barrett Street.

Aiken County Deputies had closed down a portion of Barrett Street while negotiating with Chavez.

Deputies say he was taken into custody around 7:15 p.m. and taken to a hospital for an evaluation.

Chavez was charged with assault and battery in the first degree plus a disorderly conduct charge.
