AUGUSTA, Ga. -- News 12 has learned five people were injured in an accident on Bobby Jones Expressway early Sunday morning.
Our reporter on the scene says the crash happened just after midnight on I-520 before the Deans Bridge Road exit.
We're told a pickup truck hit the guardrail, flipped over and went down into a 30 foot embankment.
A total of five people were in the truck. Three of them were thrown from the truck, while two others had to be extricated. The truck was said to be on top of one person.
Our reporter says two of those people were airlifted to the hospital and three others were taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
Officials tell News 12 none of the injuries appear to be life threatening at this point.
The crash shut down westbound lanes of I-520 following the crash, but as of 1:30 a.m., they were slowly being opened back up.
