MACON. Ga. (WRDW) -- The Augusta RiverHawks are making the move to Macon and will become Macon Mayhem.

Last week, the Macon-Bibb County Commission has approved a five-year rental agreement for Augusta's minor league hockey team to play in the Macon Coliseum if the team moves to the central Georgia city.

Kevin Dowdell, director of sales and marketing for the Macon Centreplex, said the Southern Professional Hockey League last week authorized Macon to host a franchise. The Centreplex includes the coliseum, where Dowdell said hockey supporters hope to average 2,100 fans at games.

The RiverHawks, who would be renamed the Macon Mayhem, were established in 2010 but haven’t been able to play in Augusta’s James Brown Arena home since February 2013 due to problems with the ice system. The team's owner said in October he was considering moving the team to a new city.
