AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Richmond County Coroner's Office is investigating the death of a county employee.
Coroner Grover Tuten says 34-year-old Cedric Singletary, a maintenance worker for the city of Augusta, was found lying on the ground outside of the Law Enforcement Center on Walton Way around 8:10 a.m.
Singletary was doing lawn work when he collapsed. He was taken to University Hospital and was pronounced dead at 9:33 a.m.
Singletary had started work on mowing the grass at 6 a.m. on Tuesday and was said to be blowing leaves off the sidewalk when he collapsed.
He is said to have been wearing a long-sleeved shirt and pants, following city standards while working.
Singletary had been working for the city for about two months.
His body is being sent to Newberry, S.C., for an autopsy, which was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
Singletary leaves a wife and several children behind.
