AUGUSTA (WRDW) -- A Richmond County deputy is out of a job after an Internal Affairs investigation for excessive force.

According to the sheriff's office, Deputy Brian McDuffie was fired Monday.

The Internal Affairs division launched an investigation into an incident involving the arrest of a Hephzibah teenager last week.

15-year-old Kyvan James and his mother say deputies used excessive force when arresting the teen.

According to an incident report, James and another teen were spotted outside a home while deputies were investigating a break-in.

One teen was arrested without incident, but the report says James tried to run away, then resisted arrest.

The report did say that the deputy hit James in the head during the arrest.

James is charged with obstructing an officer.
