Richmond County Coroner Grover Tuten's resignation effective Feb. 28

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) -- Richmond County Coroner Grover Tuten's resignation will be effective Feb. 28, according to a letter written by the probate court judge for Augusta-Richmond County.

According to the Honorable Harry B. James III, Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen will serve the rest of Tuten's term starting March 1.

Tuten was indicted in January on 8 theft by taking and 5 violation of oath by a public officer charges.

According to a search warrant filed by the FBI, a confidential informant led investigators to Tuten. During their investigation, the FBI said they uncovered evidence linking him to misappropriating county funds.

The warrant also said Tuten was receiving county payments into a bank account that he used for personal purchases.
