AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. -- Controlled burns at the Savannah River Site could cause residents to see additional smoke.

The affected area includes Williston, Windsor, Barnwell and Snelling.

Fire crews are monitoring the situation.

The burns were started on Sept. 22 and Oct. 6 and covered 3,000 acres. Low rainfall and the high winds brought by Hurricane Sandy have not helped the situation.

The USDA Forest Service-Savannah River will not be scheduling any additional controlled burns until the conditions in the area stabilize.
