AUGUSTA, GA (WRDW) - Newspapers in Texas are reporting Georgia Regents University President Dr. Ricardo Azziz is a candidate for the top position at the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley.
An article on The Monitor's website lists Azziz as one of five candidates. The UT system has not confirmed that.
We reached out to GRU for comment on Azziz's possible future and the Senior Vice President of Communications at GRU released this statement:
"As a national thought leader, Georgia Regents University President Ricardo Azziz is often approached about new leadership opportunities in academia and health care. He is honored to be considered for such leadership posts and remains committed to the success of GRU."
Azziz has been with GRU for almost three years. He came to Augusta as the president of the Medical College of Georgia in July 2010.
