BARNWELL, S.C. (WRDW) -- 31-year-old Bill Breeland is behind bars and faces a growing list of charges, including attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
An incident report filed at Barnwell Police Department says Breeland stabbed his wife multiple times, in the face, upper left chest, left arm, and right clavicle.
The report says the a Barnwell officer arrived at the Litchfield Apartments to find the female victim laying in a pool of blood. Police say the victim's father was also on scene. The report says the father threw a pipe wrench at the suspect, Breeland, and then chased him between the apartment buildings.
The victim, Breeland's wife, was determined to be stable by EMS, but she told first-responders that she was having trouble breathing. She was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center.
Barnwell County Sheriff's Office responded with a dog team, but the dog's had no luck.
While on scene, the report says deputies received a report that a car had been stolen from Ramblewood Trailer Park.
Officers in Williston later spotted the car at a gas station and determined the driver to be Breeland. Williston officers say they got into a foot chase with the suspect that lasted for several miles. Ultimately, Breeland was captured by an off-duty officer and transported to Barnwell County Detention Center.
Chief Todd Gantt tells News 12 that he expects additional charges, in addition to attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
