AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A mother was arrested for leaving her child in a car on Broad Street while she shopped at Family Dollar, a Richmond County Sheriff's Office report said.
Deputies arrived to the Family Dollar on Monday to find Chastity Joshua and Tiffini Maddox trying to get into a locked car with a 6-month-old inside, the report said. After returning to the car, Joshua opened the front passenger door, put money and her keys on the front seat and accidentally shut the door which caused the car to lock with the keys inside.
After deputies got into the car, the child and Joshua, the child's mother, were taken to GRU by GoldCross so the child could be examined.
Maddox told deputies that she and Joshua got out of their car at 5:14 p.m., went into the store and returned to the car at 5:22 p.m., a report said. Store footage corresponded with Maddox's timeline. Deputies were able to get into the car around 5:33 p.m.
Joshua, 28, was charged with deprivation of a minor by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office. The child was handed over to Maddox by Georgia Division of Family and Children Services.
No word on how the child is doing.
