RCSO deputy is hit by a car while directing traffic for Sunday morning

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A Richmond County cop is recovering after being hit by a car at the GRU Half-Marathon and 10K Sunday morning.

According to the RCSO Facebook page, Deputy Jonathan Olivares was thrown to the ground when his motorcycle collided with an SUV. He was helping direct traffic for the 10K race.

The accident happened at the intersection of Milledge Road and Battle Row.

The Sheriff's Office says Deputy Olivares has only minor injuries and will be OK.
