EVANS, Ga. (WRDW) -- Jonathan White knows prom nights all too well.

"When people do start showing up, it starts getting fun and everyone's out on the dance floor, having a good time," White said.

He's a junior at Evans High, and this weekend, he's back at it.

But last year, after the music faded and the lights came on, he had a choice to after-party or not.

"A big part of me did want to go, I thought that would be really fun and be part of the prom experience," he told News 12.

And with the partying sometimes comes the drinks, the drugs and trouble.

"There's some things that happened that I know of, things are probably going to happen this year," he said.

Something his dad thinks about this time every year.

"Peer pressure's there, the drugs and alcohol are prevalent," said David White.

He also understands the fun about prom night.

"The after-parties, they're going to happen, regardless, it's almost like a tradition," he said.

Even though this dad knows his son well enough, he still worries.

"It's something you're constantly thinking about throughout the night, is he safe?" David said.

And unlike some others, Jonathan is hoping to still have a fun night without the booze.

"I think it's just better to play it safe and have fun some other ways that aren't necessarily illegal," he said.
