Procession routes released for funeral of slain Aiken law enforcement officer

AIKEN, S.C. -- The Aiken Department of Public Safety is asking members of the community who would like to show their respects to line the procession route for a fallen officer on Wednesday.

Those interested in lining the route are asked to join the part of the procession between the USC Aiken Convocation Center and Bethany Cemetery.

The funeral for Master Cpl. Sandy Rogers will be held at the USC Aiken Convocation Center at 1 p.m.

Several roads north of downtown Aiken will be closed for the procession. This includes Barnwell Avenue to Hampton Avenue and Newberry Street to Greenville Street. Drivers in the area should prepare for traffic delays until late Wednesday afternoon.

A prayer vigil has been planned for Tuesday by Aiken residents. It will take place on the front law of Aiken DPS headquarters from 5 to 8 p.m.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shellhouse Funeral Home at 924 Hayne Avenue in Aiken.
