AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- It doesn't look like much now, but it's been a dream for years.

"In high school, junior high and college, I had a band call the Oxfords," said Augusta native Lawson Graham.

Graham's the project manager for the amphitheater, and he hasn't lost his love for music.

"I'm just asking Richmond County and the CSRA and the Southeast to support us in this effort to bring music to Augusta, Ga.," Graham said.

The plan is to bring "Turn On Your Radio Music Park" to the corner of Peach Orchard and Phinizy roads at the site of an abandoned drive-in theater. The indoor/outdoor amphitheater will hold about 18,000.

"We [have to] get off the ground," Graham explained. "And once we do it, we'll have some big shows."

The project is only in the beginning stages, but a week of events is already scheduled.

"Excellent entertainment, a lot of space, to get some named acts here right at masters," he said.

But it will actually be sooner than the Masters. They've got dates planned for March 8 through March 14.

So, why Augusta?

"It's in a well-known location that everyone knows and it's big enough to really have a large music review," Graham said.

But not everyone agrees.

"They could've picked a better location," said Brian Jones.

Jones has lived in Augusta for 25 years. He's a fan of live shows and says the site is too far out of the way.

"You would think they'd wanna keep it closer to the scene, which is usually downtown," Jones explained.

But Graham has big plans for what will be a multimillion-dollar investment.

"Condominiums, timeshares, RVs and playgrounds, bull riding... just a lot of fun for the family outdoors," Graham said.

He says all he needs now is community support.

"I love the music, and I'm so happy to work with these tour people to try to bring it back to Augusta," Graham said.
