AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Richmond County deputies say a man who was struck by a car on Nov. 20 has died.

It happened on the 2400 block of Windsor Spring Road around 11:45 p.m. Deputies say the pedestrian was walking in the middle of the road while walking from the Corner Pocket Bar.

The coroner has identified him as 21-year-old William Bernard Smith of Augusta. Smith had been on life support since the accident last Tuesday.

Smith died of multiple blunt force trauma just after 2 p.m. Saturday.

One driver saw Smith and swerved to miss him, but another driver hit him with the front end of the vehicle.

They say Smith was unresponsive at the scene. Smith was taken to the hospital.

Deputies say the driver who hit Smith is not at fault, but charges are pending until the investigation is complete.
