UPDATE: 5-year-old boy dies after being struck on Peach Orchard Road

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A 5-year-old boy is dead and his 13-year-old sister is in the intensive care unit after they were struck by an SUV Monday night.

It happened around around 7:40 p.m. at Peach Orchard Road and Bungalow Road.

The deputy coroner says the children were trying to cross Peach Orchard Road when they stepped in front of a Nissan SUV traveling north.

The deputy coroner says 5-year-old Kyron Doleman was pronounced at 7:42 p.m.

His sister was taken to the hospital. Her condition is not known at this time.

Officials say the accident was unavoidable, and the driver will not be charged.
