RICHMOND CO., Ga. (WRDW)--"It's just not one person that's not comfortable with the move," said Monique Braswell. "It's quite a few people."

Braswell, mother of four in the Richmond County school system, has been working with parents who disagree with the school board considering closing three schools and consolidating three others.

Through a parent petition and parent meetings, Braswell says they're working to find other ways to solve the low enrollment issues at certain schools.

"We're in the four digit numbers in our signature collecting," she explained. "We feel like we came up with some really good alternatives that would be good for our children, good for our school system."

Now, she's hoping parents will be heard at the upcoming Board of Education town hall meetings on the changes--but, she tells me she doesn't have high hopes.

"Absolutely, I mean they prove that they don't want parents voices involved," she said.

One of her main concerns is the idea of merging Murphey Middle and Josey High students.

"They're trying to fill up one school because the attendance has been so low for so long, but you need to look at why the attendance has been so low," she said.

Officials suggest 6 though 12 schools gives middle school students access to more college preparatory classes.

Braswell's argument: "Put that energy into doing it at a low performing school."

Issues she'll be taking to the town hall meetings.

"I would hope that they would reconsider closing any school," she said.

Here's the schedule for all town hall meetings on this issue:

Monday, February 3, 2014 6-7:30 p.m. Josey High School Murphey/Josey Consolidation

Tuesday, February 4, 2014 6-7:30 p.m. Craig-Houghton Elementary School Collins Closure

Monday, February 10, 2014 6-7:30 p.m. Butler High School Sego/Butler Consolidation
