COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) -- A man and woman are accused of child cruelty after a 10-year-old Grovetown boy arrived to school with bloody bruises.

Wilford Petersen, 57, and Shavoya Davis, 25, were arrested after Euchee Creek Elementary School officials found bruising and scars on the boy's pupil, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office said.

The boy told a teacher Petersen beat him with an electrical cord because he did not bringing his homework home, the report said.

The boy's mother watched the beating, Sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said.

A nurse told the sheriff's office she found cuts, some new and some healing, on the boy's arms, legs, back and buttocks.

The boy was taken from the pair and put in the hands of the Department of Family and Children Services, Capt. Morris said. Petersen was found with marijuana in the house and faces an additional drug charge.
