WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Waynesboro Police officers conducted a roundup of suspected drug dealers after a 40-day investigation.
"We're sending a message that we're not gonna tolerate having any types of drug sales or drugs in the city," said Assistant Police Chief Roosevelt Lodge.
Chief Alfonzo Williams said the suspected drug dealers sold drugs to undercover officers on a number of occasions. Investigators used undercover equipment and patrols on the street during Operation Clean Sweep.
"We had to hit it hard again because we wanted them to know that we were paying attention to them even though they thought we weren't," said Investigator Charles Prescott.
They say public outcry and a rise in thefts and burglaries led them to start the investigation.
"We knew there were sales of drugs going on throughout the city because anytime you have a rise in thefts and a rise in burglaries that means someone's operating a drug mill," Lodge said.
Officers met at 5 a.m. on Thursday and went around the city to serve warrants for people suspected of dealing marijuana, crack cocaine and oxycodone pills.
"Right now it's our number one priority," Prescott said. "Getting the dealers off the street was our main priority not necessarily focusing on the users."
Williams says several of the suspected drug dealers have been convicted or arrested for drug offenses before. Some of the suspects live outside of Waynesboro, so their arrests will be coordinated with those agencies.
Here are the list of suspects who have been arrested:
Andre Dale Robinson
