BATH, S.C. -- Neighbors all the way down the street say they heard a conflict going on, and they knew something bad was about to happen.
Family friend Chassadi Sellers lives at the end of Church Street in Bath, S.C. She said her stepfather is the one who called 911.
"When he heard the gunshot is when he picked up the phone," she said.
Police lights lit up this dark street after a call to 911 let them know something on their street wasn't right.
"A friend of my son's, DJ Davis, had been shot in there," neighbor Marickie Reed said.
"It was actually a minivan, and it stopped right here and I believe let them out right up here," said Sellers, as she pointed to the curve in the street by her home. "It was within a matter of matter of time, a minute or so is when the gunshot went off."
On Saturday night, Aiken County investigators responded to a home on Church Street to find 20-year-old Donnie James Davis had been shot and killed.
Witnesses saw an argument that escalated to gun fire. A report says the gunman shot Davis in the face.
Marickie Reed lives right across the street and says her nephew was there when it all happened.
"DJ was just sitting on the couch they said he never argued back, he just sat there and was like, 'Man, I don't want to fight.' My nephew was over there when it happened, and he told me that the guy ended up dying in his arms, and it was some people that he knew," she said.
Deputies say 45-year-old David Rosier and 21-year-old Joseph Rosier were involved in the argument.
"It's always something on this street, but it gets worse and worse and worse," Sellers said.
"Yeah, it's getting close to home too. I feel for the family," Reed said.
