UPDATE: 24-year-old man arrested, accused of opening fire during birthday party

Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Quanterious Nelson, 24, is in the Richmond County Jail, charged with aggravated assault and weapons charges.

Investigators say Nelson opened fire just before 11 p.m. Saturday on the 1500 block of Koger Street in Augusta.

Family members tell News 12 they were gathered for a birthday party when Nelson and the victim, 50-year-old Roosevelt Heath, got into a fight.

According to deputies, Nelson shot Heath in the stomach.

Family members tell News 12 Heath was alert at the hospital.
