AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW) -- One man is dead after a late-night traffic accident on Highway 278 in Aiken County.
The county coroner confirmed 23-year-old Danny Chalker Jr. of Langley SC was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle crash around 7:30 a.m.
Investigators say Chalker was driving a Honda Accord when the vehicle went off the road, hit a telephone pole and went through a chain link fence before hitting a tree around 10 p.m. Wednesday. The accident was found Thursday morning.
The report says Chalker was not wearing a seat belt.
One person living nearby reported hearing a loud noise around that time but was unable to discover what caused the noise.
Investigators say the cause is currently unknown.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Coroner's Office are investigating, and an autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning.
This is the sixth traffic fatality in Aiken County this year.
