EVANS, Ga. (WRDW) -- A local man says a scam nearly took him for a ride, and now he is warning you.

Ever since Adam Foltz was boy, he's loved the roar of the engine and the wing on his face.

"It's a carbonated bike, which means it's easier to work on; you don't need a computer to be able to work on it," he said, showing off his Honda.

Foltz spends his past time buying buying old or wrecked bikes and rebuilding them.

"From Craigslist to eBay, Modified.com, we try to find any motorcycles that they are listing under the NADA value," he said.

He built his own bike and used some of those websites to find the parts.

Recently, however, he's noticed a sneaky scam.

"Most of them say they want us to use eBay as a third-party individual," Foltz said.

It sounds seems legit until they send him a link to eBay.

"The eBay page they send you never has any option for PayPal or any other method of payment other than other than the Western Union transition," he said.

The page looks like a real eBay page, but it isn't. Not only does it not give you any options but to wire money, but the item number is fake. All you have to do is copy and paste into the real eBay page, and it shows zero results for that item.

Another sign a fake eBay page was created by a scammer is the storyline, which is often over the top.

"People saying their son died. The latest one we got she said she got her bike in the divorce and she just wants to sell it as a pride factor," Foltz said.

He didn't fall for any of their stories, and he is advising others to roll out just as quickly when they see the same warning signs.
