FOLKSTON, Ga. (AP) — A southeast Georgia wildfire centered in the Okefenokee Swamp has reached a new milestone -- it's now burned more than 300,000 acres.

The new estimate of 300,239 acres given Tuesday by fire officials shows the Honey Prairie fire has covered 469 square miles since it was kindled by a lightning strike inside the swamp April 28.

Mark Wurdeman, a spokesman for the team of 785 federal and state firefighters assigned to the blaze, says the fire's size hasn't changed their strategy of keeping the flames confined in the swamp's boundary and away from private land.

It's the largest Georgia wildfire since 2007, when flames consumed more than 578,000 acres in the swamp and surrounding communities in Georgia and parts of northern Florida.
