EVANS, Ga. (WRDW)-Hazmat was called to the scene of a tractor-trailer fire in the parking lot of Mullins Crossing on Washington Road Tuesday afternoon, according to Jeremy Wallen with the Columbia-Martinez Fire Department.

Wallen said chemicals are mixing inside the trailer, and fire crews are working to cover storm drains before they start spraying water on the fire.

Authorities said the chemicals are chlorine and a type of wood preservative. Wallen said they are trying to keep any chemical runoff out of the sewer system.

Several local businesses have been evacuated. No injuries were reported.
