AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW) -- A second vehicle running a red light is the cause of the early morning officer involved accident on Georgia Avenue, South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

The officer involved, Andrew Harris, called in the wreck around 3:40 a.m.

South Carolina Highway Patrol says a car coming down W. Five Notch Road ran a red light and hit Harris who was going south on Georgia Ave. The driver is being charged with disregarding a traffic signal.

Part of Georgia Avenue was shut down as SCHP investigated. That street is now back open.

Public Safety says Harris was taken to the hospital, treated for a sore jaw possibly from the airbag being deployed, and has now been released.
