AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Sgt. Sean Cochran would rather be solving crimes than watching news stories about them on TV.
"There's been times when I've got to call a family and say, 'Hey, the person that killed your loved one -- we arrested him this morning.' Man, there's no high in the world like that," he told News 12.
However, Cochran hasn't been able to do that in almost a month. His doctor told him to stay at home after his supervisor, Lt. Teddy Jackson, allegedly assaulted him at the police department. He says he just hasn't been the same ever since.
"It takes a toll on ya. Emotionally, physically, financially. It's very hard," he said.
News 12 tried to meet with the Waynesboro Police Department to ask if Cochran is being paid while on medical leave, if the officer accused of simple battery is still working and what's being done about these allegations. But the only response we got from Chief Augustus Palmer was a one-sentence email: "At this time I don't have anything new to discuss in this matter."
Cochran says that's more than he's gotten.
"I have been called by no one, other than one person in the Waynesboro Police Department, that had any concern whatsoever. And one member of the city council called me to express concern. Other than that, my phone hasn't ringed," he said.
Cochran must now wait before he can put any new pictures or articles into his album, but he says he can't wait much longer. He says he wants justice for him and his family.
"I'm unhappy. They're unhappy. Like I said, I'm married, my wife is working, she's toting the load right now. It's not easy at all," Cochran said.
While News 12 had no luck with the police department, City Manager Jerry Coalson confirmed there is an investigation into Cochran's claims. He says they hope to have this all figured out by sometime next week. Cochran has hired an attorney and is beginning to explore what his next step will be. It may be a lawsuit, but he still isn't sure.
