Only on 12: 24-year-old accused of strangling his girlfriend to death pleads not guilty

News 12 First at Five / Friday, Oct. 12, 2012

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Todd Goff pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder on Friday.

Back in July, Goff was accused of strangling his 22-year-old girlfriend, Tiffany Salter, then dragging her body to the backyard where investigators found him standing beside a large hole.

Now, it will be up to a jury to decide his fate.

Goff signed the not guilty plea early Friday morning, alongside his attorney Pete Theodocian before court started.

The victim's father, John Salter, was disappointed he missed it, saying, "I got there a little late. I didn't know that they could do that. They got him in there before 9 o'clock before I could get there."

Salter just had back surgery Wednesday, but he wasn't going to let
that stop him from the chance to look his daughter's accused killer in the eye.

"I wasn't going to miss this. I kind of signed myself out [of the hospital]," he said.

Salter says the pain in his back doesn't hold a candle to the pain in his heart.

"I am looking forward to my day in court to get justice for my daughter. Whatever that takes," he said.

The next step will be a lengthy trial process, which could take a year to 18 months until they reach a final verdict -- something Salter is not looking forward to.

"... The length of it. That's going to be real hard," he said.

In the meantime, Salter's family will be waiting for justice.

"I mean, if he's not guilty, who did it? I'm anxious to hear that story," Salter said.
