AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- As deputies look into the second shooting in 24 hours on Paine College's campus, News 12 is On Your Side with the information from the Sheriff's Office.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office confirms the following:

  • A 21-year-old man is custody in connection to Monday's shooting
  • One student, 21-year-old JaJuan Baker is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a bullet to the head
  • Monday's shooting happened at 1 p.m.
  • Paine College was on lockdown as of 4 p.m.
  • Some surrounding public schools were put on soft lockdown until the end of the school day
  • The first shooting of the pair happened on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Gray Hall
  • The second shooting of the pair happened on Monday at 1 p.m. at Haygood, a building used for classrooms and offices
  • The 57-acre private school campus holds just over 800 students
  • No word on whether the shootings were related or not
  • Paine has a zero tolerance policy for guns on campus
