NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. -- A 28-year-old North Augusta man is dead after an overnight shooting.

According to the Aiken County coroner, the victim is Travis Smith.

He was pronounced dead at Ridgeview Manor on Bradleyville Road around 3 a.m. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday morning.

North Augusta Public Safety officers say a witness to the shooting said two black male suspects wearing hoodies approached Smith while standing outside the apartment B-417 with his girlfriend, Bianca Cauthen.

One suspect fired a single shot in the direction of the two as they ran back inside the apartment. Smith was found on the couch inside the apartment with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, according to investigators.

Smith and Cauthen were at the apartment complex visiting Cauthen’s friend, Jessica Smith, at the time of the shooting.

At this time, Public Safety detectives and agents with the State Law Enforcement Division are actively working leads and following evidence connected to the shooting.

No motive or reason for the shooting has been determined at this point.

Both suspects are described as black males, over 6 feet tall and around 160 pounds and should be considered armed and dangerous. One suspect wore a dark red hoodie and the other wore a black hoodie.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the identity of either suspect is asked to contact the North Augusta Department of Public Safety at (803) 279-2121 or lead investigator Det. Jon Nelson at (803) 441-4276 immediately.
