NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW) -- A North Augusta wife admitted to police that she shot her husband on Labor Day, according to an incident report.

Debra Morris, 59, is in jail in Aiken County charged with the murder of her husband.

An officer responded to a possible suicide call on Monday and found Debra sitting in the living room, the incident report said. The officer asked Debra if she found her husband, 63-year-old Stephen Morris, with the single gunshot wound to his head. She responded "I actually did it," the report said.

Around noon on West Woodlawn Avenue, Debra told officers she and her husband were having marital problems, the report said. The officer found Stephen in the master bedroom with a pool of blood around his head.

"When we got there something happened inside the home that led officers to believe or quickly change their view from a suicide to a potential homicide," Lt. Tim Thornton said.

North Augusta Public Safety is working with SLED on the case.

"The gaps and the details will be filled in as more unfolds and as we learn more," Thornton said.

Debra was booked into the Aiken County detention center Monday evening. Neighbors tell News 12 the couple was very private.

They would always see Debra Morris outside cutting the grass and was always friendly and would give a wave. They say it's a quiet neighborhood and can't believe something like this could happen there.

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW) - Police said the wife of the man shot and killed in their home has been arrested and charged with his murder.

Officers are charging Deborah Morris with the murder of Stephen A. Morris. She is also being charged with possession of a firearm during a commission of a crime.

Investigators were called to the 600 block of West Woodlawn Avenue just before noon today.

Public Safety investigators tell News 12 they received a call about a possible suicide, but after they arrived on the scene, determined this was a homicide.

Police say they found Stephen A. Morris on the floor with a single gunshot wound to the head. The Aiken County Coroner pronounced Morris dead at the scene.

They tell News 12 the couple were the only people in the house at the time.
