12 On Your Side: Resident still living in chaos after summer flood

News 12 at 6 o'clock / Monday, Oct. 15, 2012

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. -- A woman is still living in chaos months after her condo flooded. The tenant says not only has she been living with a collapsing ceiling above her bed since early summer, but now the management company of her condo wants her to pay more to live there.

Patricia Korach showed News 12 the ceiling above her bed that is collapsing. She says there is all sorts of water damage throughout her condo.

"It's terrible. You have to live like this," she said.

Korach has been living this way since early summer when the first heavy rain fell. In August, the rain came again and News 12's camera was there to capture the flooding.

"It was bad, it was real bad," she said.

She says she lost her dining room furniture, among other things.

Korach says she the management company for Summerhill Townhomes sent workers to dig a trench outside her condo to hopefully prevent further flooding. They also had someone replace the carpet and linoleum in her home.

However, she says, they have still not fixed the hole in her ceiling or the water stains on her walls. And to add fuel to the fire, she says, they now want her to agree to a new lease.

"Yes, they're increasing my rent by $80," she said.

Korach has not signed the new lease and is waiting on them to fix her ceiling.

She says she just hopes the rain doesn't beat them to the punch.

The management company tells News 12 that a scheduling conflict with the tenant has prevented them from fixing her ceiling. After News 12 On Your Side contacted them, they said scheduled someone to go fix Korach's ceiling the next day.
