AUGUSTA, Ga (WRDW) -- Dozens are still experiencing problems trying to sign up for the

The deadline for those that want coverage on Jan. 1s is now on Christmas Eve.

Navigators in the area welcome the extra time as others use pen and paper because technology is not so fast paced.

Healthcare.gov was supposedly fixed weeks ago. Many are still receiving a message that says those wishing to log-in needed to wait, because there were too many people on the site.

"There's still several issues with the system. Some applications go through pretty cleanly, others have no reason as to why things are not working as they should," insurance broker Jonathan Powell said.

Powell has helped handful of people enroll into the Affordable Care Act Program.

"Since Oct. 1, I've successfully enrolled seven or eight people. The website would not allow me to enroll 15 others," Powell said.

Medical Associate Plus Navigators helped around 10 people fill out the paper application form on Monday morning.

The process is slower and doesn't give amounts for the plans like the website. Calvin Merriweather filled out his paperwork months ago and is yet to hear back how much the plan will cost.

"They said try to get in before the beginning of the year. So I did that and would probably hear something in the next 60 to 30 days," healthcare enrollee Calvin Merriweather said.

You have until March 31 to enroll before you're hit with a $95 penalty for adults and $40 penalty for kids.

The next year that amount doubles and even gets bigger the year after. So if technology continues to let you down experts suggest picking up a pen and doing things the old fashion way.

The catastrophic plan under the Affordable Care Act is now open to anyone who has been dropped by their insurance carrier. It does have a high deductible but the monthly payments are said to be lower than what is currently offered.
