AUGUSTA, Ga. -- After six years, the New Year's Even countdown celebration between 11th and Broad streets has come to an end.

"This is the first year we haven't done it in quite some time," said Bobby Morrison, who runs Metro Coffee House and Pub.

Morrison said there's really only one reason they canceled the drop for Monday night.

"It's a lot of work, so we're just going to try to enjoy tonight," he said.

11th and Broad streets looked pretty bare. But last year, New Year's Eve preparations started hours before the party.

However, Morrison wasn't the only one putting on the countdown party downtown. 1102 Downtown Bar and Grill was a partner from the start. Together, the bars would spend close to $5,000.

Even though the drop was canceled for Monday night, the manager of 1102 said downtown is still the place to be for New Year's Eve.

"11th Street, the block, is still the tightest concentration of bars. These bars have a lot of history. It's a lot of close-knit people. And it's still the best place to be if you're going to be in Augusta," said Manager Matt Mazur.

While the big attraction of the countdown drop has been canceled, both bars say the party will continue.

News 12 asked if they plan on bringing it next year.

"Yeah. No doubt," Morrison said.

Mazur says he isn't thinking about next year yet but wants everyone to be careful.

"Be safe. That's the biggest thing with everybody," he said.
