Tornadoes strike Orangeburg, Dorchester counties

BOWMAN, S.C. (AP) -- The National Weather Service has confirmed two tornadoes struck in Orangeburg and Dorchester counties.

The first twister touched down 5 miles east of Bowman in Orangeburg County around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and knocked down dozens of trees and damaged a chicken coop before crossing Interstate 95 in Dorchester County. Officials say all the chickens survived. Forecasters say winds in the tornado were between 100 mph and 110 mph and the path was about 5 miles long.

The second tornado touched down about the same time near Duncan Chapel in Dorchester County. The twister damaged trees and crops on its 2-mile path and had winds between 85 mph and 90 mph.

No one was injured in the storms.
