Tuesday, March 19, 2013

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The National Weather Service is reporting a tornado touched down in Burke County Monday night.

The NWS says the EF1 tornado touched down 12 miles southwest of Waynesboro at approximately 9:01 p.m.

The report says the tornado took down trees, severely damaged field irrigation systems and destroyed cattle barns and heavy equipment buildings.

Six dairy farms were damaged by the storm, one of which is an organic vegetable farm that sells statewide.

The tornado stemmed from a severe storm that brought wind damage, heavy rains and hail to many portions of the greater Augusta area.
