AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. -- A 49-year-old motorcycle rider is dead after running into an 18-wheeler.
The victim has been identified as John J. Dickert of North Augusta.
The coroner told News 12 Dickert was going north on Highway 1 near Duke Drive when he slammed into the rear of a semi truck stopped in the northbound lane. This happened around 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Dickert was riding a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle. The driver of the semi, a 2006 Freightliner, was 59-year-old David Richardson of Aiken.
Witnesses say Richardson had stopped to allow someone out of the semi truck.
SCHP is investigating this crash also.
Dickert died at the scene. Toxicology is pending.
