AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- WCSC reports the Berkeley County coroner confirms the woman and daughter found dead at a Summerville home Tuesday are from our area.
Coroner Bill Salisbury told WCSC that 26-year-old Ashley Kaney, from Aiken, and her 8-year-old daughter, Riley Burdick, were found inside a home around 11:30 a.m. in separate beds.
The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office tells WCSC that they've detained 22-year-old Jacob Philip and charged him with grand larceny and two counts of murder early Wednesday morning.
Investigators tell WCSC he confessed to killing Kaney and her daughter during a domestic incident.
Salisbury says a social worker from Sangaree Intermediate School went to the home Tuesday morning after the girl had missed two days of school. When no one answered the door, she called the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.
Neighbors say the woman and girl had lived in the home for about a year.
