HEPHZIBAH, Ga. (WRDW) -- A mother is behind bars, charged with beating and biting her 9-year-old. Crystal Lynne Quick, 41, was arrested Monday after her son ran to a neighbor's house, saying his mother wouldn't stop beating him. He said he was afraid she would hurt his 3-year-old brother, too.

Family members like Steve Jones, the boy's great uncle, say they are sick about this.

"She talks bad about him and all, cusses at him, and all that stuff," Jones said.

He's talking about his neighbor, Quick, who also happens to be his niece. She is charged with first and third-degree cruelty to children after investigators say she beat her 9-year-old son.

"She hit him in the head, she bit him on the cheek," he said.

Investigators found bruises all over his body and bite marks on his ear, shoulder and even his face and head.

Investigators say the boy escaped the home and ran next door to his cousin's house. His cousin is a Richmond County deputy who arrested Quick until more deputies could get there.

"It's just awful, I just hate it. I been after them now since 2005, y'all need to straighten up."

He's hoping his niece's trip to jail will be a wake-up call before one of his great nephews gets hurt worse.

"It's not over, it's not going to be over until probably one of them gets killed. And then they're going to say, 'Oh God, what happened?'"

The 3-year-old was not injured and both kids have been turned over to their father.
