AIKEN CTY., S.C. -- The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to a school bus accident Thursday morning in Aiken County.
According to their reports, the accident happened at about 7 a.m. on Brief Patch Lane near Pine Log Road.
The driver, Shirley Couch, of Warrenville, was driving the 2008 Freightliner bus loaded with 21 students. She was traveling north on Brier Patch Lane and veered off the road, struck a drain culvert and went into a ditch. Couch was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
Twenty of the students were transported to Aiken Regional Medical Center just to be checked. One student was taken to GHS Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
The drive is being charged with driving too fast for conditions.
